UHP Transfer Options
UHP TRANSFER TO EDUCATION HONORS PROGRAM PROTOCOL
Education majors in the University Honors Program (UHP) are welcome to apply to the Cato College of Education Honors Program. A key benefit is that the Program is small and provides individual support for students as they plan and conduct original research for their capstone project requirements.
Interested and qualifying UHP students have two options:
Option 1: Dual Honors
UHP students can remain in their program; however, if accepted into the Education Honors Program (which is a college honors program), the students can complete their UHP capstone project requirement through the Education Honors Program. The capstone project will count towards both the UHP and Education Honors Program capstone project requirement, making this a Dual Honors program.
Students who choose Option 1, will need to complete the following:
- Email the Education Honors Co-Directors to express interest in applying to the Education Honors Program as a Dual Honors student.
- Review the Education Honors Program website and student handbook to understand the requirements. Ask the Education Honors Co-Directors questions to clarify any of the expectations.
- Inform Ms. Denise Lynch (dlynch29@uncc.edu), the Coordinator of Programming and Dr. Andrew Keener (andrewkeener@uncc.edu), the Scholars Advisor in the Honors College, about their decision to apply to the Education Honors Program.
- Meet with their COED Academic Advisor. Discuss how the Education Honors Program and UHP course requirements will fit into their plan of study.
- Apply to the Education Honors Program.
- Complete the following three required courses: RSCH 4101, EDUC 3789, and EDUC 3790. Maintain a 3.2 GPA in all honors courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 at graduation.
- Note: If students have taken a research course similar to RSCH 4101, please inform the Education Honors Co-Directors.
- Note: These GPA requirements apply to new students entering the university in Fall of 2024. Current students may petition to have them applied to them.
- Education Honors students may also count RSCH 4101 toward their University honors elective requirement (please request this credit through the UHP Canvas page when the course is complete).
- Complete all other UHP requirements.
- Upon successful completion of the Education Honors Program and UHP requirements, apply for graduation with Honors.
Option 2: Drop UHP and Transfer to Education Honors Program
UHP students can request to withdraw from the UHP program and transfer to the Education Honors Program to continue receiving enrichment and more challenging learning experiences.
Students who choose Option 2, will need to complete the following:
- Email the Education Honors Co-Directors to express interest in transferring to the Education Honors Program.
- Review the Education Honors Program website and student handbook to understand the requirements. Ask the Education Honors Co-Directors questions to clarify any of the expectations.
- Contact Dr. Andrew Keener (andrewkeener@uncc.edu), Scholarships Advisor in the Honors College, to find out if there are any consequences to switching to COED Honors.
- Inform Ms. Denise Lynch (dlynch29@uncc.edu), the Coordinator of Programming. She will facilitate the exit process.
- Meet with their COED Academic Advisor. Discuss how the Education Honors Program will fit into their plan of study.
- Apply to the Education Honors Program.
- Complete the following three required courses: RSCH 4101, EDUC 3789, EDUC 3790. Maintain a 3.5 GPA.
- Note: If students have taken a research course similar to RSCH 4101, please inform the Education Honors Co-Directors.
- Upon successful completion of the Education Honors Program requirements, apply for graduation with Honors.
